And then I met Anne

There are people we meet who leave an impact on us.

After a particularly stressful week, I have been feeling overextended & quite honestly, a little sorry for myself.

And then I met Anne.

Anne lives in the same retirement residence as my Mom.  She suffered a stroke 3 years ago, after being left unattended after surgery.  One might think she would be full of anger & resentment, filled with rage at the unfairness of her situation.

Nothing could be further from the truth.  Perhaps she has private moments of self-pity, but every time I run into this beautiful person, she is filled with a positive energy that would put most of us to shame.

Grateful for her life, grateful for the sun shining, expressing concern for others & all but brushing aside her limitations as a result of her stroke.

Without the use of her left side, she has learned to adapt.  On any given day, you can find her slowly make her way down the hall in her wheelchair.  When asked if she would like some help, she will cheerfully tell you she is just fine.

What a bright light she is for those of us indulging in a pity party.

There is a lot of talk these days about the listening to what the Universe is telling us. Paying attention to those little day-to-day indicators & using them as a guide in conducting our life.

I believe running into Anne yesterday was the Universe tossing a thunderbolt at me. A reminder of how very grateful I am to have the good health that I do.  A wake up call that despite my challenging week, I am blessed in more ways that I can count.

I have posted this link before but interestingly it showed up in a friend’s facebook feed this past week.  Another gentle nudge from the Universe perhaps.

I gift it to as we approach the weekend.  It’s worth the watch.

Happy Weekend!

Hugs,

L

  1. It is strange how we get a reminder occasionally and they come from the strangest places. I hope you have a great upcoming week.

  4. One of the things about working in special education is that I get regular reminders that my life really isn’t that challenging. Other families are facing much bigger hurdles in their lives. Makes me appreciate what I have.

    Anne sounds amazing.

I have no doubt you must receive daily reminders in the wonderful work that you do. There are days when our challenges seem insurmountable. It is in those times when we cross paths with someone who is dealing with challenges beyond our comprehension. Thank you not only for your visit today, but for your encouragement & taking the time to comment.

You haven’t posted in a while, Heather. All ok with you? 🙂

It never fails…we all get the Anne reminder when needed most. And it’s always a humbling experience.

    • Lynn says:

Humbled is a perfect way to describe how I felt after talking to Anne. she is absolutely who I needed to come across yesterday. Have a great weekend 😉

It’s a good story, Lynn. Amazing how well some people respond to things like this. Filled with admiration because I don’t know if I could. I opened the video and thought- 10 minutes! I can’t spare that! So glad I did! What a thing of beauty it is. Thank you so much for brightening my day and filling me with gratitude. 🙂

    • Lynn says:

Anne possesses such an incredible spirit Jo. I actually saw her again yesterday when visiting my Mom & made a point of letting her know how much she touched me the other day. I have often said hello but this was the first time I had stopped to have a conversation. She truly inspired me.

So glad you took the time to watch the video in its entirety. It delivers such a beautiful message as it moves along, & like Anne, one that impacted me when I first saw it. I have watched it a number of times since that first time & it still leaves me with the same feeling.

      Cheers my friend!

Lynn, thank you so much for this…very inspiring. I was just feeling a bit sorry for myself that I am not going anywhere warm this March break. You have giving me something very profound to ponder. I love the video and I am also a big fan of time lapse photography…so beautiful. Must go and appreciate life….

    • Lynn says:

My pleasure my friend. Every now & then it seems we all need a little reminder of how grateful we should be for the very rich lives we have. I so appreciate you taking the time to comment today!🙂 Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

    I’m grateful for you!

Laurie, you very kind words just added a little more sunshine to my day. Thank you so much!

Lynn, I think everyone before me has pretty well summed up how I feel.

The Universe does indeed send us messages – we just have to be prepared to listen to them. I hope the next week is kinder and less stressful for you.
I think I’d like to wear my “Anne Attitude” this week. It’s been a while and I’m overdue ❤

Gratitude brings along with it a life filled with Lights of JOY. 🙂 Great post!!! ❤

  12. A lovely inspirational post. I consciously try to work on positive thoughts these days and even though sometimes very real obstacles get in the way it helps a lot. What an amazing woman Anne sounds like and so special that you picked up on her upbeat vibes.

    • Lynn says:

Sounds like a very good attitude to adopt. Like you, most days I try to chose positive over negative but sometimes life just gets in the way & it takes a wee reminder to reset my attitude.

Anne is an example of someone who has every reason to feel bitter & yet she is always so pleasant & positive. She is amazing indeed 🙂 Thank you for visiting today and taking the time to comment.

  13. Sherri says:

Isn’t it amazing how one person can give us so much on a given day at a given moment, and so often when we least expect it, but when we really need it? What a blessing! Anne is an inspirational and wonderful woman…thank you for sharing this story Lynn. It is lovely to meet you, I’m so grateful you walked across my path on this given day 🙂

      Hi Ashlee.
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I would be happy to contribute this piece to your project. I will get in touch with you via email for further information.

      Congratulations on a co-founding a wonderful project!

  15. Great post and wonderful video. I got caught up in Ted talks once I stopped by there so it took a bit to come back here. 🙂 I have a friend like Anne. With constant pain and hands that go sideways, she still makes dozens of charity quilts and sews quilts and gifts for family and friends. Always a smile even though you can see the suffering in her body and life. It always reminds me to be deeply grateful for every moment. They put things in perspective. Thanks for the reminder. Came by way of Laurie.

    • Lynn says:

It’s funny how we feel so challenged some days by our lives, only to be reminded by someone like your friend or Anne of very fortunate we are.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop over via Laurie. I truly appreciate your visit!

  16. mlmuldoon says:

Thank you for sharing this experience. I am struggling right now with some negativity in my life as well, and it’s a good reminder to now let that sort of attitude bring you down, but rather to be receptive to the ‘Annes’ in all of our lives that will remind us of what matters if we just pay attention.

    • Lynn says:

It is difficult some days to see beyond the struggles we are experiencing. Then along comes someone like Anne & instantly we recognize how life could be so much more challenging! I so appreciate you taking the time to read Meghan. I am not certain if you had the opportunity to watch the video but if you didn’t, I would highly recommend you grab a cup of tea & have a watch. It is a beautiful reminder to all of us of how each day is truly a gift.

  17. Sue Slaght says:

Lynn this is a beautiful video and post. It is amazing how when life seems overwhelming it seems like someone is almost thrust upon us to give perspective. I hope things are better for you now my friend. Looking forward to delivering a hug in person very soon!

    • Lynn says:

It is a video I have watched a number of times as it is a favourite of mine. Things have calmed down a wee bit so we shall just cross our fingers, we are moving in the right direction.

I too, am looking forward to that person to person hug. I feel like we should have booked a few days as I am certain we shall want to talk forever!
