A Gentle Reminder from Mother Nature

Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind.  To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” – Calvin Coolidge

img_6628-1The past few days here have been a wee bit crazy!

Our children arrived home on Friday evening, just ahead of the ice storm that rolled in on Saturday night, causing major power outages & damage in a number of areas.

Thankfully, with the exception of a few limbs coming down, we were spared any real damage.

Although we were without power for a short period of time, with a roaring fireplace, a gas BBQ for cooking & some extra blankets for warmth, we emerged from the storm unscathed.

When one is without power, very quickly we redefine the importance of many conveniences & instead resort to making the best with what we have.  An interesting little challenge, particularly at this time of year.

Suddenly, the idea that some big spread needs to adorn our table, becomes less important.  Instead, we are satisfied with sitting by candlelight & dining on whatever is available & easy.  I cannot help but think that perhaps, this is how it should be.  Rather than worrying about all of the fuss, we just focus on helping our friends & neighbours & keeping warm.

I like to think that this is mother nature’s way of giving us a gentle nudge & reminding us what is truly important.

It is not the packages & the turkey that brings us love & joy.  It is the simple comfort & joy of family & friends that love & support us each and every day we have the good fortune of spending time with.

So, it with this sentiment that I extend my wish to you & your family.  May your Christmas  be magical in memories shared with your loved ones.  May it be overflowing with love & joy to energize your soul. I wish you a sense of peace today & everyday.

Merry Christmas!

Hugs,
