Reflections – 1st day of school

As I drove to work this morning, I couldn’t help but smile, as I passed a number of excited children on their way to their first day of school.   Little ones jumping up & down with nervous anticipation, while their parents stood sipping their coffee anxiously waiting for the school bus to arrive.

What will their future hold for them?

Who will be the friends they will meet along the way?

It seems like only yesterday when I stood with my own children, waiting for their bus to pick them up & then secretly wanting to follow behind to ensure they were okay.

It is one of those moments as a parent where you find yourself standing there looking at your kids & thinking, how is it possible that this day has arrived?

Wasn’t it just yesterday that we began the journey of parenthood?

Thankfully, with both of our children, there were no tears or tantrums as they set out on their first day of school.  With lunch boxes packed, backpacks stuffed with supplies & indoor shoes, they happily stepped on the bus to enter into a whole chapter in their lives.

What they couldn’t have known that day was that this was their first step towards many years of education that would help shape them to become the amazing adults they are today.  To this day, they continue to learn & to strive to be the best that they can be.

Watching those excited little kids this morning with ribbons in their hair & backpacks bigger than themselves, brought back memories of days gone by for this mom.

Here are my babies, back in the day on their 1st days of school.  Taking a picture on the first day became a tradition over the years.  You can imagine by university, I was met with rolling eyes & a “seriously mom, we’re still going to do this” look!  But come on, they are the cutest kids on the planet!

Agree with everything! Even the first day photos 🙂
I’m going through such a range of emotions right now with my youngest having started school. Happy yet a little sad x

I am not sure that emotion ever leaves us as parents. From the very day we welcome them into our hearts, we are forever changed. Hope your son has an amazing year at school:)

  2. It’s bittersweet, isn’t it? As a mom I want them to grow but I want them to stay little, too. Thanks for stopping by my blog 🙂

Indeed it is! Every stage in growing with your children is wonderful new adventure. Mine are now 28 & 26, still love just hanging out with them. Enjoying your blog, thanks for visiting mine as well:)
